About Driftwood and Barnboard Rock Art

I love repurposing items and using nature to create art. The driftwood and rocks used in the driftwood mosaic art and driftwood sculptures pictured below, are primarily collected from Lake Superior. My husband and I also go fly fishing every year to Wyoming, where I collect driftwood from streams and rivers. I love the rustic, weathered look of driftwood. Each piece is so unique!

Driftwood Mosaic Art: My husband makes the frames, which are stained and painted. I then spend hours securing each piece of driftwood and rock onto the frames. You can spend a lot of time looking at the frames, seeing something new each time. The frames are individually priced based on size. Prices range from $25 to $450 for the largest size, which is 4' x 2'.

Driftwood Sculptures: The driftwood used for the sculptures is anchored to a rock by a metal rod. The rocks are secured to the driftwood. Prices range from $20 to $75 based on size.

Barnboard Rock Art: The frames are made using barnboards from Minnesota and Wisconsin. I spend several hours sanding and cleaning the boards. I then cut the boards in half, secure to plywood that has been painted, and finally add the rocks! I will not say how I add the rocks as that is top secret! It took me a long time to figure out how to secure them. The rocks are collected from Lake Superior. Finding rocks that are flat and uniform in size is challenging. Prices are based on size ranging from $45-$115. Sizes vary from 4 feet long (the largest) to 8" long (the smallest).
